Radar / laser detectors are really helpful to know how fast you were going when the Police determine your vehicle speed. That said even the best most expensive detectors will not operate fast enough to allow you to slow down before the Officer knows how fast you are going if they are shooting a laser at you.   ( they just don't work fast enough and you would not be able to slow down in the time frame needed )

The radar section of your detector may save you if you react fast enough. Radar beams or waves are very large and travel very far if strong enough. So if an Officer is clocking another vehicle your detector will pick it up giving you time to slow down. Modern radars used by law enforcement have an Instant On or Pop Function. That means the attacking radar unit does not produce any radiation for your detector to pick up until the Officer turns it on. Officers will usually have it in stand by mode until they see a car going too fast then turn it on at just the right time. Modern radar units used by Law Enforcement can clock vehicles from the front and rear. Most radar units used by Law Enforcement Officers can clock you even if the Officers vehicle is moving at any given speed. Current units can read the difference in two vehicles even if they are traveling right next to each other. The attacking radar will read from right to left or which ever vehicle is closer to the radar unit first.  The use of radar devices is 100 % legal as States have taken Judicial Notice to the use of these devices to determine the speed of an object.

                        How do they work !

Most radar units only read objects that are traveling toward or away the unit. They really don't read objects traveling from the side very well. The attacking radar unit depends a lot but not fully on the vehicles tires and wheels. Now we will get kind of technical but will try to explain it in Laymens terms for the public to understand.  Imagine the valve stem on your tires... It is traveling back and forth on the vehicle faster than the vehicle speed. The valve stem is going front to rear very quickly. As the tires rotate half the time is spent with the valve stem traveling toward the front of the vehicle much faster than the vehicle is moving. The spokes on the wheel create the same effect traveling forward very quickly.  ( unless you have chrome smoothies for wheels ) This rotational effect is a high factor in the radars readings but not all of it... Now to prove this point if you have over sized tires on the back of your car to make it look cool the rear wheels will rotate slower than the front wheels.  This difference in wheel rotation will throw off the radars readings by 2 miles per hour. Further if you put 1 paddle on each tire with oversized tires on the rear each paddle would rotate at a different speed essentially batting the radar waves back the radar unit at a different return frequency from front to rear.  Hopefully you understand what we just said.

                Radar Nets 

Unlike lasers, radars can be used to form a net. Jet fighter airplanes are designed to defeat such nets. As we stated before radar waves are very large and sometimes very strong. Lasers are much smaller and dissipate much faster. Jet fighters have the engines buried deep inside the airplane to hide the rotations created. The shape of the planes body has no angles that will cause a return to the attacking radar unit. So with all that you have a stealth airplane invisible to radar nets or attacks  ( mostly )

Unfortunately the airplane theory will not work on your vehicle. There are just too many things to mention that will cause a return to the radar unit that are out of your control. But don't worry we know how to beat a radar in theory, actual applications and in court.  In theory it would take 1000 pages so we will pass on that aspect for now.  In true life it is easy to defeat a radar unit. For an example mounting a fan outside on your car would cause the radar unit to read the fan blade spinning throwing off the readings. This method is very reliable but unfortunately it would cause the radars reading to be higher in speed. Most other legal ways to jam a radar deal with some sort of rotation and will also cause high readings on your vehicle. So it is easy to trick or fool a radar but it is not practical. Trying to hide from the radar with stealth is the best way to go but that is not easy to do on your vehicle. The States know all this information and have tested radars and taken judicial notice to such use.

                Beat it in court.

To beat a radar or laser speeding ticket in court is easier than you may think. ( That's if the court just doesn't rob you )  Unless you have a Jury trial it is the Officers word against yours. Most innocent people plead Not Guilty and go for the Bench Trial.   Here at Laserxlight we are not Lawyers, Attorneys or any type of law or legal related entity. Your testimony ( under oath ) is supposed to be written  in stone and will be a part of the courts records in some form or another. So what you say or don't say will get you found Not Guilty. Do not ever offer any information to the court. ( it will be held against you ) In court for most States you are not allowed to ask the same question twice so don't let them fool you with indirect verbiage and double negative statements. They can ask you a question in 100 different ways but your answer should always be the same. This also applies to when the Officer stops you, whatever you say should be a part of their testimony. Next read your ticket very closely. Look for errors like time of day, car make, model, year and especially color. You might be surprised as to how many people get tickets where the Officer played around and put the wrong car color. Most likely the radar unit is a fixed mounted unit to the patrol car so the Officer cant bring the actual radar into the court room. They can easily bring the laser guns so we always like to ask to see the radar unit they were using at the time. 

To go on pay close attention to the Officers response to your questions. If said Officer does not want to answer questions or does not know, hesitates or seems to be avoiding the questions call them on it. They expect full ( even if it is a yes or no ) answers from you. If the Officer wont answer the questions put forward how can they find you guilty. So basically give the Officer and Court the same energy they give you. That way they cant say you were getting smart with them or causing trouble.

It can be very intimidating in front of the Judge and in the courtroom with all those people. You might get nervous so write down your questions toward each topic very orderly and take them to court with you.

It will almost surely help to practice at home being in the court setting and having the hearing. Do it at home with friends or family and you will be surprised how much more comfortable you will be in actual court. This might sound silly but it works.
